Valencia was our destination today. It is the 3rd largest municipality in Spain and has one of the busiest ports in Europe. The city appeared to be in two parts: super modern and very old. To get the best sense of the city, we took a bike tour from the port to the old city. Due to a disastrous flood in 1957 the Turia river was rerouted to protect the city. The old river bed was turned into a park that is a centerpiece to much of the city’s activities.
The old city is in stark contrast to the port area. Buildings and bridges dating back to the13th century form a unique mix of the former culture.
After the 4-hour tour we headed back to the ship for lunch where I ordered my favorite item: grilled tuna wrap, hold the wrap.
Just before dinner we stopped by the Atlas Bar to sample one of their drinks. They make a display out of every drink they serve and it’s fun to watch. Dinner was in the dining room for the first time and we just enjoyed sitting and chatting over some really nice food.
Tomorrow is Alicante for a short stop before sailing at 3. We’re going to cram in a walking food tour. I guess we’ll have to walk fast!
