From the appearance below it might seem that our day in Porto, Portugal was all about food. We didn’t mean for it to turn out that way but it did.
After a short bus ride to the center of the old town we started walking around. The first thing we saw was the stunning tower of Clérigos Church built in the mid-18th century. Many people were walking up the 240 steps, but there was no way we were going to even attempt it!
There were a ton of visitors to the old town on this Sunday morning but we could not figure out why. The downtown was nice but surely we were missing something. One of the things we missed was the “Harry Potter Bookstore.” Actually called the Livraria Lello, the bookstore is billed as the “most beautiful bookstore in the world.” From the photos (other people’s) it looks like it might be. Had we planned ahead just a little bit, we could have received a reservation. But we didn’t.
What we did do though, is try a different type of Pastéis de Bacalhau. Those are the salt cod fritters we had yesterday and were even better. The fritter was served with a small glass of port using this funky painter’s palette kind of contraption. But it worked.
I caught a few photos of the old town before heading back to the ship.
This was our last night in the steakhouse because we’re running out of time in the cruise. We all opted for the filet of tenderloin, but Dennis and Diane took it over the top with an amazing chateaubriand. It apparently was so good that Dennis had the leftovers wrapped and treated as an additional dessert.
