It’s Thursday and we found dry land! We only had 2 sea days, but the weather made it feel much longer.
St. John is the smallest of the 3 U.S. Virgin Islands. Virgin Islands National Park occupies more than half the island. It seems to be a quiet island until the cruise ships disgorge their passengers. Open air pickup trucks outfitted with benches serve as the main mode of transportation. Ours took us over to Trunk Bay to go snorkeling.
It was the perfect place for tourists (us included). The beach was pristine, they had showers, changing areas, food for sale, and best of all, a 650’ underwater snorkeling trail.
The water was really clear but the locals said it was quite murky given the storms that had just come through (and we experienced on our way). The clarity was amazing and I can’t imagine how much better it could be.
Azamara Cruises always have their signature “White Night.” It’s a fun event that takes over the whole pool and track areas. Everyone is encouraged to wear white and come ready to party. The food was outrageous and was complete with charcoal-grilled lobster tails. All the entertainment groups played a set and dancing was nonstop.
Tomorrow we will be next door in St. Thomas. The distance, as the crow flies, is 14 miles. We’re going to spend 7 hours getting there by going out to sea, doing some circles and then heading back to shore for an early morning arrival.
